How to Make Your Kitchen Feel Bigger with a Few Simple Tricks

Although British homes are known throughout the world for their wonderful style and down-to-earth character, there is one area where we failed to perform: size.

We are a small island and space is at a premium. This means that our houses tend to be on the small side.

Because we want our living spaces, e.g. our bedroom and our living rooms, to be spacious, we tend to lose space in kitchens and bathrooms to accommodate for the larger living spaces.  This means that our kitchens tend to be on the small side.

Fortunately, there are many things that you can do to help make a space feel bigger.

In this article, we are going to look at some simple tricks that you can do to help make this space field much bigger.

Make sure that the furniture is small

One thing that can make a room feel small is if the furniture is too big for the room. When it comes to the kitchen, the furniture includes things such as the kitchen cupboards, washing machines, and kitchen radiators.

You can buy all of these things in smaller sizes but still have pretty much the same overall functionality that you have with the larger items.

For example, a narrow dishwasher may be designed in such a way that it can accommodate as many plates as a larger dishwasher.

As well as paying attention to the fixed furniture, think about other things such as tables and stools. You don't have to buy large items here. The smaller ones will do.

Buy blinds instead of curtains

In any small room, it is always better to invest in blinds that sit flush to the window, rather than curtains that tend to set out a little bit from the window.

Curtains can make the room feel smaller because they are heavier. You can buy thin blinds for the kitchen and this will help create more space.

You might be worried about the amount of light that a thin blind will let in. With kitchens, this isn't an issue, as they don't need a lot of darkness and in fact, darkness can lead to problems such as mould and mildew.

If you do need a blackout blind in your kitchen, then they are easy enough to find. You might not be able to find them with very pretty patterns, but they are certainly out there.

Increase the number of reflective surfaces

Speak to any DIY enthusiasts and they will tell you that one of the ways that you can create an illusion of space in a room is to ensure that it is like. For example, paint the walls in a light colour, such as white.

Another thing that you can do is increase the number of services that have reflective coatings. For example, you can buy kitchen radiators that are reflective, and you can also add mirrors in the room.

It might sound very simple, but the tricks above will help to make the most of your space.
